Hechtel-Eksel, Belgium – On the weekend of Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September 2025, one of Europe’s most prestigious aviation events returns: the International Sanicole Airshow, held at Sanicole Airfield near Leopoldsburg. As always, the show promises a unique blend of military precision, aviation heritage, and cutting-edge aerial displays.
Flying highlights: rare appearances and fan favorites
While the full list of participants is yet to be announced, several noteworthy aircraft have already been confirmed, generating excitement among aviation enthusiasts. One of the absolute highlights this year is the F‑4E Phantom II from the Hellenic Air Force (Greece).
The F‑4E Phantom II is a twin-engine, supersonic fighter-bomber developed by McDonnell Douglas in the 1960s. It served in air forces around the world for decades, but is now being rapidly phased out. In Europe, Greece is among the last countries still operating the Phantom in active service. Its appearance at Sanicole represents a rare opportunity to witness this iconic Cold War-era aircraft, both on static display and in flight. For many, this may well be the last chance to hear the Phantom’s thunderous roar over Belgian skies.
Other expected highlights include:
- The Belgian F‑16AM Fighting Falcon demo;
- Tactical support helicopters like the NH90 and possibly the A400M Atlas;
- Historic warbirds such as the Avro Lancaster, Spitfire, and Douglas Dakota III;
- International aerobatic teams including the Red Arrows, Frecce Tricolori, and Royal Jordanian Falcons (subject to final confirmation).
