The Sanicole Sunset Airshow has a charm of its own. There’s something special about watching aircraft perform as the sun sets, with smoke trails and flares lighting up the evening sky. It’s an event that blends aviation with atmosphere — less about speed and noise, more about mood and spectacle.
This year, however, the weather had other ideas. What was supposed to be a golden-hour show turned into a battle against grey clouds, wind, and rain. The light that normally adds a warm glow to the aircraft simply never arrived. Instead, the evening was wrapped in dull tones, making photography a real challenge. Capturing vibrant colors or crisp silhouettes was nearly impossible, and most of my shots carry that subdued look that comes with overcast skies.
Still, there was something captivating about the perseverance of the teams. Even with the poor conditions, several displays went ahead, and the contrast between bright flares and the dark, heavy clouds created an unexpected kind of beauty. It might not have been the vivid, sparkling show everyone hoped for, but it had its own quiet intensity.
For me, the Sunset Airshow 2025 was less about perfect photos and more about documenting the atmosphere — the rain-soaked runway, the sound of engines echoing through the mist, and the determination of crews who kept going despite it all.
My photos from the evening are now online:
