On 28 August 2026, I attended the Nightshoot during the Soesterberg Zomeroffensief at the former Soesterberg Air Base.
The event offered a rare opportunity to photograph an impressive selection of historic military aircraft in a unique setting. Photography started during the golden hour, with the last daylight providing a beautiful backdrop, before continuing into the evening as the aircraft were specially illuminated on the platform behind the National Military Museum.
The line-up included the F-4E Phantom II, F-16BM “Orange Jumper”, NF-5B Freedom Fighter, TF-104G Starfighter, F-86F Sabre, Hawker Hunter, Fokker S.14 Machtrainer, MiG-21PFM Fishbed and F-100D Super Sabre.
With the changing light, carefully positioned aircraft and the historic surroundings of Soesterberg, the Nightshoot provided plenty of opportunities for some atmospheric aviation photography.
